The Trouble with Goodness

The Trouble with Goodness is a collection of text-based quilted works by Kyla Hansen. The works included in the exhibition focus on gaps in perception; how affect has the capacity to transform us profoundly, as human beings. Hansen’s quilted works employ the intimacy of bedding to explore the way moments of intense emotion can alter the way we expect to act, causing us momentarily to become strangers to ourselves. Similarly, the work formally offers moments of shifting perception. Letter forms move back and forth between abstraction and narration while exploring personal narratives surrounding goodness.
